Eastleigh set for investment from Bridle Insurance

Image
By Simon Walter -  Eastleigh hit a late equaliser to earn an FA Trophy replay against Chippenham Town – but their best result of the weekend was off the pitch. The Spitfires went 1-0 down at the Southern Premier side to a goal from their former player Toby Osman, son of ex-Saints and England defender Russell. But Richard Gillespie’s late header ensured the sides will try again at the Silverlake Stadium at 7.45pm tomorrow, with the winners set to play either Weymouth or Havant & Waterlooville in an away tie in the First Round Proper. Whatever the result in the replay, the good news for Eastleigh fans is that the club’s long-term ambitions have been given a significant boost. Eastleigh’s board decided at a meeting on Saturday morning to “recommend to the shareholders acceptance of an offer from Bridle Insurance Limited for the purchase of a majority shareholding”. Bridle Insurance, which is based in Witney, Oxfordshire, have been the backers of Glenn Hoddle’s academy in the past

FA Trophy 1st Round Proper Draw

Image
Eastleigh could be in line to face Hampshire rivals Havant & Waterlooville in the next round of the FA Trophy. However both clubs will need to get through their respective replays first. The Spitfires will be looking to see off Southern Premier outfit Chippenham Town at the Silverlake Stadium following Saturday’s 1-1 draw, while Shaun Gale’s Havant – held 0-0 at Weymouth on Saturday – hope to turf out the Terras. Should Eastleigh beat Chippenham tomorrow night (Tuesday 29th, 7:45pm kick off) Eastleigh will be away to either Havant or Weymouth on Saturday 10th December . Eastleigh director of football Dave Malone has stated that some of the club's new investors may be in attendance at Tuesday evening's Third Qualifying Round replay: "We are hoping that one or two of our proposed new Investors (Bridle Insurance) may be at the game - so please come along and make them feel welcome!" FA Trophy, first round proper (December 10): Northwich Victoria

Green: My toughest decision

Image
By Simon Walter -  EASTLEIGH defender Michael Green admits leaving Port Vale was the hardest decision he has ever had to make. The 22-year-old left-back was given his break with the League Two club after helping AFC Totton win promotion into the Southern Premier League last season. But after making five appearances for the Valiants he has returned south because of homesickness. So desperate was he to return to Hampshire, he took what Eastleigh manager Ian Baird has described as "a hell of a hit on the contract he had at Port Vale". Green, pictured, who has also played for Brockenhurst and Christchurch, is now living with his family in Sway again. He explained: "It was my first break into pro football but I missed being down south and wanted to play a bit closer to home. It was more my choice rather than Port Vale's." Despite missing home, Green's time in the Potteries was not all bad. He benefitted from playing in front of 5,000-plus crow

Billy out on loan

Winchester City have captured the emergency loan signing of teenager Billy Tsovolos from Eastleigh for the next month. The Australian defender joined Eastleigh in August after a trial period with Portsmouth. Tsovolos, 18, can play at right back or as a central defender but has only started four games in the Blue Square Bet South this season for the Spitfires. Billy made his debut for Winchester recently in an 8-0 win over Brading Town.

Hampshire Senior Cup - Eastleigh re-instated

Image
Hampshire FA Saturday Senior Cup Sponsored by BSA Regal Aldershot Town FC beat Farnborough FC 2-1 on 14 November 2011 in the third round of the Hampshire FA Saturday Senior Cup Sponsored by BSA Regal and, following an official protest received from Farnborough FC the following day, they were charged with playing an ineligible player. It was also brought to our attention that they had played an ineligible player in the previous round against Eastleigh FC. Aldershot Town admitted the charge and the decision of the Hampshire FA Cup Committee was to remove them from the competition. Farnborough FC were charged with playing ineligible players in the second round of the competition against Fleet Town. They pleaded guilty to the charge and the decision of the Hampshire FA Cup Committee was to remove them from the competition. Due to both teams playing ineligible players in Round 2 of the competition, the Hampshire FA Cup Committee have re-instated both Eastleigh FC and Fleet Town FC w

Ian's Osman Reunion

Image
By Simon Walter -  EASTLEIGH manager Ian Baird is hoping his defenders keep Russell Osman's son quiet during tomorrow's big FA Trophy tie at Chippenham Town. Toby Osman, a 20-year-old striker, left Eastleigh in the summer and Baird has seen him score in his last two matches for the Southern Premier outfit, including a volley in a 4-0 win against St Albans on Tuesday night. Baird has known ex-Saints and England defender Russell for several years. He said: "I was Russell's record signing as Bristol City's manager when he bought me for £350,000 from Hearts and he treated me very well there. "Toby was with us for a few months last season and is very enthusiastic but just couldn't force himself in with us." The FA Trophy represents Eastleigh's last chance of a significant cup run following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Chippenham's Southern Premier rivals Oxford City last month. But Baird is confident following his side's response to

Chippenham v Eastleigh - Match Preview

Image
Match Preview by Kieran James Ian Baird's Spitfires travel away to Chippenham Town at Hardenhuish Park in the FA Trophy tomorrow (3pm kick off) in the Third Qualifying Round. Not only will the winners be in the First Round draw for FA Trophy, they will also win £4000 for progressing to the next round. The Spitfires have been in good form lately having won three of their last four games in the league and drawing against fourth-placed Dartford last Saturday 2-2 at the Silverlake Stadium. Chippenham are doing well in the Evo-Stik Southern League - they are sitting in seventh place and have won eight, drawn four and lost six games this season. The Bluebirds have only lost two games at home in the league. Chippenham's last game was at home on Tuesday to St Albans City where they won 4-0. Ross Stern's cross found former Spitfire Toby Osman to volley in his second goal in two games to open up the scoring. Stern then scored his first ever goal for Chippenham, which saw the B

Eastleigh sign Flood

Eastleigh FC can announce that we have agreed the transfer of Chris Flood from Dorchester Town for an undisclosed fee. We hope to conclude the formalities today in time for the player to be available for our FA Trophy game at Chippenham on Saturday. Flood originally joined Eastleigh on loan at the beginning of November and made his debut in a 4-1 home win over Maidenhead United. Chris got on the score sheet with a neat finish to seal the win and complete an impressive display on his debut at the Silverlake Stadium.

Andrew White had the best of the early opportunities inside the opening half an hour. The Spitfires threatened first in the 6th minute when Jack Dovey's long ball forward saw Jamie Slabber cushion a header into the path of White, who in turn dragged his shot wide of the post. Green commits to Spitfires

Image
By  Wendy Gee   -  MICHAEL Green has joined Eastleigh on a permanent basis after being released from his contract at Port Vale. The 22-year-old left-back got his big professional break with the Valiants during the summer after an outstanding season with Evo-Stik South & West champions AFC Totton. But less than five months after signing a two-year deal for the npower League Two club, his contract has been "reluctantly" terminated by Vale because, they say, Green wanted to be closer to his family. Eastleigh, who originally sold Green to Totton for a four-figure sum in 2009/10, have had him back on loan from the Valiants for the last month since when they have pulled themselves away from the Blue Square Bet South relegation zone to within five points of the play-off places. Confirming the Sway-based former Christchurch player is now a permanent fixture at the Silverlake Stadium, Eastleigh boss Ian Baird said: "Greener has joined us for this season and

Eastleigh v Dartford - Match Preview

Image
Match Preview by Kieran James The Spitfires are playing Dartford on Saturday in the Blue Square Bet South (3pm kick off) at the Silverlake Stadium. Eastleigh notched up their third straight league win at the Rushmoor Stadium on Saturday when they beat Hampshire rivals Farnborough 1-3. The Spitfires took the lead with Andrew White firing in his fifth goal of the season for Eastleigh. The former Reading and Gillingham striker pounced on a loose ball and made no mistake in putting Eastleigh 0-1 up. Eastleigh were cruising and had many chances to double their lead, however it was the Yellows who equalised through Reece Connolly following a cross from former Southampton striker Tony Garrod. Farnborough were looking dangerous in front of goal with on-loan Southampton goalkeeper Jack Dovey making some great saves. Ian Herring floated a free kick in to the box which looked destined for Farnborough keeper Nikodin Matic’s gloves, but the former South Coast Wolves goalkeeper, who had trialed

Graeme Montgomery - Eastleigh have extended the winger's loan from Aldershot Town for a further month. This deal will see Graeme reach the maximum of 90 days (three months) which is permitted for loans unless it is a season long loan. Michael Green - The left-back's current loan is at an end after an impressive one month spell at the Silverlake Stadium. Eastleigh FC are currently in talks with both Port Vale and Green himself. Jack Dovey & Chris Flood - The young Southampton goalkeeper and talented midfielder Flood both have two weeks remaining on their current one month loans.

Baird: 'Four more wins and we're safe'

Image
By  Wendy Gee   -  THE words of Farnborough boss Garry Haylock came as sweet music to Ian Baird's ears after Eastleigh had registered their third Blue Square Bet South victory on the bounce with a 3-1 result at Cherrywood Road. Haylock openly admitted that his side had been "out-fought" by the resurgent Spitfires, adding: "If you don't match teams physically you are going to get beaten up - and today we got beaten up." Turn the clock back a few weeks and both Hampshire clubs were at the wrong end of the table trying desperately to find their feet after undergoing major changes of playing personnel during the summer. But whereas fourth-to-bottom Farnborough are still struggling, having lost their last seven games, Eastleigh have improved to such an extent that they are now 11th, just five points outside the play-off zone. "The way I see it is we're four wins away from safety," said Spitfires boss Baird. "But as I s

Loan move for Cashin-Murray

Spitfires boss Ian Baird has given the go-ahead for Adam Cashin-Murray to further his footballing education with Southern One Central outfit Fleet Town. The midfielder, who turned 21 this week, signed for Eastleigh during the summer from Hungerford Town, current leaders of the Southern One South & West. A former Reading FC youngster, Cashin-Murray has also played for Reading Town and Henley Town.

Eastleigh FC press officer Malcolm Clarke looks ahead to Eastleigh's FA Trophy tie against Chippenham Town later this month:   "This will be the third cup tie between the teams following the 1984/85 FA Vase tie, which Eastleigh won 1-0 at Ten Acres (before it was called the Silverlake Stadium), and the 1997/98 FA Cup tie which Chippenham won 1-0 after a 0-0 draw at Hardenhuish Park.
