Basingstoke Town 0-3 Eastleigh

BASINGSTOKE TOWN 0-3 EASTLEIGH Friday 29th March 2013 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Paul McNamara As has become customary in recent months, Eastleigh bounced back from a hiccup – the midweek defeat at Tonbridge – in fine style. This was a composed, controlled, and rounded display, as well as being particularly crucial in terms of keeping alive aspirations for a tilt at a season ending play-off position. From the moment the first ball was kicked at The Camrose Ground this afternoon, the Spitfires’ team looked far more balanced and cohesive than that which stuttered on Tuesday. Dale Binns, returning from illness and replacing Craig McAllister, was the only change to the starting eleven. The winger’s presence allowed Jai Reason to be employed in his preferred position behind lone target-man, Chris Zebroski. Damian Scannell switched back to his habitual role on the right – the side from which the Croydon born player operates at his roving and menacing best. It

Tonbridge Angels 3-1 Eastleigh

TONBRIDGE ANGELS 3-1 EASTLEIGH Tuesday 26th March 2013 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Paul McNamara The overriding fear coming into this game, was that the weather enforced two week break endured by Eastleigh would strip some of the momentum and fluency from what was a team in rare form. The worst anxieties were confirmed in a patchy display, which could prove extremely costly to any hopes of sustaining a late season push for a top five finish. There was only one change to the eleven which started a fortnight ago against Boreham Wood – and that was enforced with Dale Binns unavailable due to illness. It is testament to the impact that Binns has made since being afforded a run in the side, that his pace, work-rate, offensive drive and defensive responsibility were all sorely missed here. Richard Hill chose a formation he felt best suited the personnel available, switching to a 4-4-2, with Craig McAllister returning to partner Chris Zebroski in atta

EASTLEIGH v BOREHAM WOOD Tuesday 12th March 2013 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Jamie Montigue The Spitfires took on Boreham Wood tonight knowing that a victory would take them onto level points with the Hertfordshire side, who before the game occupied the fourth and final play-off spot. Since early January, when Eastleigh found themselves second-bottom in the Blue Square Bet South, Richard Hill's side have come a very long way. In the space of a couple of months, Eastleigh have pulled themselves away from the mire and charged up the table towards play-off contention by winning eight and drawing one of their last 11 league games. It is a spell that has seen 25 points picked up with just ten goals conceded in that time. The same side that saw off Maidenhead United in the impressive 2-0 away victory at the weekend lined up to start the game this evening at the Silverlake Stadium. A promising start to the game was made by winger Damian Scannell who twisted and t

Maidenhead United 0-2 Eastleigh

MAIDENHEAD UNITED v EASTLEIGH Saturday 9th March 2013 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Paul McNamara Eastleigh recorded their third away victory in four and a second successive clean sheet in the course of a deserved 2-0 win at Maidenhead United’s antiquated York Road Ground. Although still not hitting the heights of this team at its flowing peak, the Spitfires’ performance was a step up from last week’s dogged effort against Eastbourne Borough and ultimately possessed too much class for the hosts. The visitors started this game as the brighter of the two sides and weren’t deterred by the heavy and uneven surface from trying to pass the ball or, in the cases of Damian Scannell and Dale Binns, taking the game to their opponents with direct runs at the Magpies’ backline. A Binns cross produced the first Spitfires chance, from which Mark Hughes couldn’t extend Billy Lumley in the home goal beyond having to easily collect a low under-hit strike. Maidenhead immediately sought

Eastleigh 1-0 Eastbourne Borough

EASTLEIGH v EASTBOURNE BOROUGH Saturday 2nd March 2013 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Jamie Montigue Eastleigh stretched their unbeaten run of league games at the Silverlake Stadium to six with a win and a clean sheet against today's visitors Eastbourne Borough. Chris Zebroski netted his first goal for the club on his second appearance to settle the match by a solitary goal early in the second half. The result saw the Spitfires climb one place to seventh in the Blue Square Bet South at the close of play. Craig McAllister remained an absentee from the squad for the hosts, whilst defenders Dan Spence and Dean Beckwith both missed out through injury. Damian Scannell was recalled to the starting eleven having been sidelined for the past two games. Mitchell Nelson replaced Spence at right back as the only other change from the side that drew 2-2 with Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday night. The opening ten minutes to the game was devoid of any clear cut chance
