Hill urges fans to support the team

Image
Richard Hill has urged Eastleigh fans to get behind the team ahead of Monday's home game v Bromley (3pm). The Spitfires boss said: “The end of the season can’t come quickly enough for Eastleigh Football Club and that’s terrible for a club that’s had the successes we have. “But whatever differences the fans have got with any of the players – or with me – I’m asking them to come out and support the team. “The team is the most important thing and everyone, me included, needs to get behind them. “We’ve done amazing to get the points we have and, if we stay up, which I think we will, I don’t want to go into the last game of the season with just a two or three-point gap. “I’ve not come back to be the big ‘I am’, I’m in a position where I have to do what I think is right for the club in the short-term. I can’t have any sentiment at the moment. “We had supporters travel all the way to North Ferriby which I appreciate is not just round the corner. “If we don’t win, I’m t...

Reda likely to miss rest of the season

Richard Hill has been looking ahead to Eastleigh's trip to promotion-chasing Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday. The Eastleigh director of football/caretaker boss has said that it is likely that Reda Johnson will miss out on the rest of the season due to injury. "Reda did his hamstring at Chester and I’d be very surprised if he plays again this season. There’s no point pushing him now. “I came back to the club to get us safe and we’ve managed to do that. There’s no point playing players with long-term injuries, we might as well save them now.” The Spitfires have taken ten points from their last four games. Hill said: “We’re in better recent form, but they’re (Dagenham & Redbridge) at the right end of the table with not a lot of upheaval this season, which is totally different to Eastleigh." “At Eastleigh it’s been one obstacle after another, but the club’s come a long way in a short space of time and perhaps it’s time to just calm ourselves down a...

Daily Echo | Hill to make changes for Torquay trip

Eastleigh set to make changes for Torquay trip EASTLEIGH boss Richard Hill is considering ringing the changes for tomorrow's (Tuesday, 7.45pm) Vanarama National League trip to Torquay. The Spitfires have a few tired bodies after back-to-back victories over Barrow and Chester which have all but banished fears of falling into the drop zone.

Daily Echo | McAllister: Bringing back old faces was just the tonic Eastleigh needed

By Wendy Gee (To read the full article click the link below)  Bringing back familiar faces from a bygone era is not always the recipe for footballing success. But targetman Craig McAllister reckons that, in Eastleigh’s case, the tactic is paying off. The return of defender Paul Reid and striker Matt Tubbs worked a treat last weekend as the Spitfires despatched Barrow 2-0 for a long overdue first win of 2017. It puts them level on points with Saturday's National League hosts Chester, who have themselves been having a rough time of it, losing seven of their last ten league games. Allen confident that short-term pain will bring long-term gain for Eastleigh EASTLEIGH boss Martin Allen has a proven track record of turning short-term pain into long-term gain with his previous clubs Gillingham and Barnet. So while fans may be feeling twitchy as the Spitfires head into tomorrow's FREE-ENTRY game against Macclesfield Town (Tuesday, 7.45pm) still looking for their first victory of 2017, the manager himself takes confidence in knowing that history is on his side.

Allen: We need to do more

Quotes from Eastleigh boss Martin Allen as he reflects on the defeat at home to Braintree and looks ahead to taking on Tranmere: Reflecting on Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at home v Braintree: “We’ve had a long chat this morning to see the players and [have] a few individual chats.” “Obviously it was a big disappointment, especially after playing so well at the weekend away at Guiseley. It was such a good performance up there where we came so close to getting three points.” “It’s still not quite clicking yet but having watched the video we saw some of the chances we had. Strevs (Ben Strevens) is through with the goalkeeper to beat, then Tyler (Tyler Garratt) was through one v one. [There was also] Strevs’ header at the far post from three yards that went just wide, so we still had chances even though I don’t think we played that well.” Work to do: “There’s still a lot of work to do here at the moment. It’s very frustrating for the supporters, it’s frustrating for myself and we ha...
