Tessem signing confirmed

By Adrian Kajumba -

FORMER Saint Jo Tessem has come to the rescue to help Eastleigh after their injury problems worsened this week.

The Norwegian striker has agreed a pay-as-you play deal at The Silverlake, which will run until the end of the season if it suits both the player and the club.

Tessem, 37, had been training with the Blue Square South club for some time to keep himself fit.

But Baird was forced to ask him if he would be willing to lend his talent and know-how to the seventh-placed Spitfires’ play-off bid after three more players joined the club’s injured list this week.

Striker Jamie Brown will be out for "a minimum of eight weeks" after suffering a medial knee ligament injury just four minutes after coming on against Havant & Waterlooville last week.

Joint top scorer Andy Forbes took a kick on the hip in the midweek win over Weymouth and is rated as doubtful for tomorrow's trip to fellow top six contenders Chelmsford.

Midielder Anthony Riviere suffered a recurrence of his long-standing groin injury against Weymouth and had to be taken off after originally coming on as a sub.

"Our situation after Tuesday has forced me to go and ask him if he will come in and help us," said Baird of Tessem, who played over 100 games, including in the 2003 FA Cup final, in his six years at Saints.

"He won't play every game or can't due to other commitments, but he has agreed to do that.

"He has been training with us for two or three months just to keep himself fit and over the last couple of weeks he has impressed me.

"He has fantastic pedigree and anybody you speak to will tell you he is a good pro."

"We have got 16 league games to go and if everything works out for both parties hopefully he will be with us until the end of the season."

Tessem could be handed an immediate Spitfires debut at fourth-placed Clarets tomorrow.

"He will probably be thrown in on Saturday," Baird said yesterday.
