Shaw through the door
Eastleigh's preparation for next season continues today with the re-signing of Eastleigh goalkeeping legend Wayne Shaw from Sutton United fulfilling the role of both player and coach as the summer break fast approaches conclusion.
Fans will be delighted to learn the charismatic shot-stopper will join Ian Baird's coaching staff at the Silverlake as a specialist goalkeeping coach, and provide cover for gifted young starlet Jack Dovey.
Spitfire boss Ian Baird said: "I've known Wayne a long time, his vast experience makes him a non-league legend and I jumped at the opportunity to work with him again."
"He is a local lad who knows the club inside out, was voted Eastleigh's best ever goalkeeper and recently involved in promotion and play-off season's at Sutton."
Wayne was exceptionally popular at the Silverlake last time around and enjoyed a Testimonial Match in July 2008 against a former Southampton XI. In front of a decent crowd the Saints line-up included Rod Wallace, David Howells, Tommy Widdrington and Francis Benali who could only draw with Wayne's XI. In addition to Eastleigh and Sutton, Wayne has also had spells at Basingstoke Town and AFC Totton.
"Primarily he is here to work with and help Jack Dovey's development on a day to day basis which will include matchdays, but he can still play and will provide useful cover" Ian continued.
