Blue Square Monthly Awards - February 2013

HARRIERS TITLE SWOOP LANDS BURR THE FEBRUARY HONOURS

Kidderminster Harriers boss Steve Burr has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for February. Five wins from five league matches during the period has put Burr’s team second in the table and as short as 9/2 to win the title. Their current run of form shows an incredible 15 wins in their last 17 league games as they have put their horrific start to the season behind them. During the month their 100% record included a vital 1-0 win at promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers as well as victories at Hyde and Nuneaton. They conceded just three goals in those five February victories and found the net no less than 12 times. The award is Burr’s second of the season having previously been named the ‘manager of the month’ for December.

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘manager of the month’ award for February goes to FC Halifax Town manager Neil Aspin. The Shaymen have been playing catch-up in the race for promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier and face an intense finish to their campaign. That hasn’t deterred Aspin’s side who have climbed to fourth spot in the table with an unbeaten month in the division. Halifax have taken 14 points from a possible 18 during the period including four away wins. Their only defeat coming in the FA Trophy at top-flight Dartford (who edged the quarter final replay 3-2). Aspin watched his side score 19 goals in their six league matches as they moved into the play-off zone with games in hand on their rivals.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘manager of the month’ award for February goes to Chris Kinnear from Dover Athletic. Kinnear marked his return to the Crabble with an unbeaten month as he looked to get their promotion chase back on track. His first three games back in charge turned around a sequence of five league defeats as Athletic racked up a hat-trick of victories. They also earned a valuable point at play-off rivals Boreham Wood to go third in the table. Kinnear is back in charge at the club he last managed in 1995, winning promotion to Non-League’s top-flight during his ten year stay the first time around.

HOTSHOT MALBON MAKES IT A FEBRUARY DOUBLE FOR THE HARRIERS

Anthony Malbon from Kidderminster Harriers has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for February. The talented young forward has been a huge factor in Kidderminster’s 100% record for the month with some vital goals. Malbon has found the net in every single game during the period including a brace in the 4-0 win at Hyde. His goals at Nuneaton and promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers earning 1-0 away wins which helped the Harriers up to second place in the table. The award makes it a February double at Aggborough as boss Steve Burr scooped the managerial honour.

In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘player of the month’ for February is Dan Gardner from FC Halifax Town. Midfielder Gardner has been in fantastic form in February as his side cope with an arduous fixture list. The summer-signing from Droylsden has scored a number of important goals for the Shaymen and provided some vital assists as they challenge for promotion. The former Celtic youngster scored five times in seven matches as Halifax moved up to fourth in the table and competed in the FA Trophy, scoring both goals in their quarter-final exit at Dartford. The award makes it a February double for the Shaymen as Neil Aspin takes the manager prize.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘player of the month’ for February is Alex Wall from Maidenhead United. The former Thatcham Town striker scored five goals in five matches for the York Road side as they went through the month unbeaten. His stunning free-kick at Weston-super-Mare at the beginning of the month was followed by a brace against Billericay. He also scored important goals in the wins over Hornchurch and Boreham Wood as the Magpies moved up to tenth in the table.
