Pre Season Schedule

With the seasons for all different levels of the game commencing on different dates this coming 2013/14 season, arranging pre-season fixtures has proved more of a challenge than usual.

Eastleigh report back to training on Monday 1st July for their build up to the Football Conference Southern Division campaign. The first fixture on their schedule is the following Tuesday the 9th July when Npower League Two side Wycombe Wanderers visit the Silverlake Stadium for the first ever meeting between the two clubs. It’s an early start for The Spitfires but the visitors that day start their league campaign on 3rd August a full fortnight ahead of the Football Conference South.

Eastleigh then wait eleven days until their next warm up fixture which is on Saturday 20th July away at Southern League South & West Division side North Leigh, where Eastleigh recorded a 2-1 victory last season with goals from Daryl McMahon and Jai Reason in late July. North Leigh finished in ninth place in the Division last season.

Portsmouth send an eleven to The Silverlake Stadium on Wednesday 24th August for a 7.45pm kick off, then forty-eight hours later Premier League Southampton send an eleven to The Silverlake Stadium for a Friday evening showdown with a 7.30pm kick off. It is Southampton’s first visit to Eastleigh for two years; Eastleigh having won the last encounter 4-1 thanks to two Jamie Slabber penalties and also strikes from Andrew White and Danny Smith.

Portsmouth have not visited The Silverlake Stadium since 2009 where they romped to a 6-1 victory - Brett Williams scoring for Eastleigh though David Nugent netted a hat trick for the Blues and singles from Youness Kaboul, Paris Cowan-Hall and Subotic.

The last fixture to be added into the schedule is for Tuesday 30th July at 7.45pm when Football Conference Premier Division side Woking visit The Silverlake. Having won the Southern Division in 2011/12 Woking adapted well in their first season of Premier Division football and had ex-Eastleigh striker Brett Williams in their squad for most of the season on loan to them from Reading.

The Premier Division of the Football Conference starts on Saturday 10th August so Eastleigh welcome to the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday 3rd, last season’s Southern Division Play Off Winners Salisbury City for a 3pm kick off. Craig McAllister netted the only goal of the game in the home league fixture with Salisbury last season which was revenge for a 3-5 defeat at Old Sarum over the Christmas and New Year fixtures schedule.

Eastleigh then finish their pre-season with a game at A F C Totton on Saturday 10th August. A F C Totton are in the Premier Division of the Southern League though have been beset by problems at the end of the season and so far during the summer. It is hoped though that this will all be settled and the game scheduled for the tenth will go ahead. Of course Totton had several links with Eastleigh recently but it is still to be seen if ex-Eastleigh players such as Gareth Barfoot, Ross Bottomley, Richard Gillespie, Michael Gosney and Chris Mason will still be with them when the fixture comes around.

So the full list of first team friendlies are:
Tuesday July 9th - Wycombe Wanderers, home 7.45pm
Saturday July 20th - North Leigh, away 3pm
Wednesday July 24th - Portsmouth XI, home 7.45pm
Friday July 26th - Southampton XI, home 7.30pm
