Eastleigh 4-4 Bromley

Paul McCallum bagged a hattrick for Eastleigh in a rollercoaster 4-4 draw against Bromley at the Silverlake Stadium. Richard Hill's reaction: “There’s been times when I’ve been accused of not entertaining people, but today we have – both teams. “It was one of those crazy, crazy games you get two or three times a season. “But today you’ve seen two teams that need to defend better. Most definitely my team need to defend better. “We’ve had to score four goals to draw a game of football at home. “For the first 25 minutes, we probably played as well as we have all season and there were spells in the second half when we played some decent, flowing football, but we can’t defend like that. “Brett (Williams) has come on and changed the game, but we were always going to face a bit of an onslaught from them and we didn’t handle it well enough, we really didn’t. “But then give us a bit of credit for fighting back twice.” EASTLEIGH: Graham Stack, Gavin Hoyte, Sam Wood (Sam Matthews, 82), Da...

Eastleigh got some valuable match practice against Alton in their latest pre-season friendly. The Spitfires eased to a 9-0 victory with summer-signing Paul McCallum scoring four. It was a useful exercise for the Spitfires to play on a 3G surface as Richard Hill's side will face Bromley on a synthetic pitch on the opening day of the National League season. Alton play in the Sydenhams Wessex One, five leagues lower than Eastleigh. McCallum opened the scoring in the 19th minute, and then struck three more times in just ten minutes leading up to half time. After the break Craig McAllister, Ross Stearn, Ayo Obileye, James Constable and Michael Green all added their names to the scoresheet in a convincing victory. The Spitfires will take on an AFC Bournemouth XI at the Silverlake Stadium on Tuesday (7pm).

McCallum will join the Spitfires on a two-year deal and link up with the club for the beginning of pre-season next month when his Orient contract expires. Paul McCallum signed a two-year deal with Leyton Orient in June 2015 following his release from West Ham United. The 6 ft 3" forward started his career at Dulwich Hamlet and made his first team debut for the club at the age of 17 in October 2010. He played an integral role for the youth team that season as they reached the third round of the FA Youth Cup where they faced Newcastle United having defeated Yeovil Town in the previous round. His performances attracted interest from a number of Premier League sides and on January 31 2011, McCallum made the decision to sign a professional contract with West Ham United. McCallum was unable to make the breakthrough at West Ham however during his three years at the club as he was loaned out o...
