Eastleigh v Eastbourne Borough - Match preview

Match Preview by Kieran James
Ian Baird's Spitfires will look to get back to winning ways today as they take on Eastbourne Borough in the Blue Square Bet South at The Silverlake Stadium (3pm kick off).

Eastleigh have failed to win in their last five games in the league having lost four and drawn one which has destroyed their play-off hopes this season; and with a heavy defeat away to Boreham Wood last Saturday, The Spitfires will be looking to get a good result for the fans.

The Spitfires travelled to Meadow Park last Saturday where they had a difficult task against The Wood and it took just eight minutes before the hosts took the lead through Callum Reynolds who headed home former Spitfire Graeme Montgomery's cross.

David Bryant doubled The Wood's lead just three minutes after the break before Graeme Montgomery tripled their lead after beating keeper Jack Dovey on a one on one breakaway.

Tom Jordan on his return from injury gave away a penalty that Omar Riza tucked away to put The Wood 4-0 up and Scott Roger's then got a second yellow, which didn't improve matters for The Spitfires.

However Daryl McMahon did manage to score a free kick which he floated in to the area, only for everyone to watch the ball hit the back of the net.

Two minutes later captain Luke Garrad restored The Wood's four goal advantage with a twenty-yard shot and Sam Cox made it six with seconds to go with a superb solo effort on goal to complete a dreadful afternoon for The Spitfires.

Following the match, director Mike Andrews made an announcement on the fans forum about the game against Eastbourne Borough.

"Production of Programme,Ticket Stub or failing that, Name and Address on a piece of paper, from those fans who attended the Away game at Boreham Wood last Saturday, will allow the bearer free admission to the Eastbourne game this Saturday at the Silverlake. Please enter by Gate 1 nearest to the Clubhouse."

Eastbourne Borough last played on Tuesday as they took on last place Thurrock. Ollie Rowe opened the scoring for The Sports before David Knight equalised after the break.

With minutes left on the clock Ben Watson claimed all three points for The Sport that has put them in good spirit for today's game.

The last time these two teams met was back in October and it wasn't the best of games for Eastleigh, goals from Ollie Rowe, Ben Watson and Matt Crabb was enough to beat The Spitfires on that occasion, however The Sports captain at the time Gary Elphick now plays for Eastleigh.

Going into this game a press release was announced about next season's season ticket prices and the early bird prices have dropped in price as well as the normal season ticket prices. It was also announced that the playing budget has increased for next season.

As well as this, Eastleigh Football Club owner Stuart Donald announced on the fans forum that Sky TV will be at the clubhouse for the game against Dorchester Town on good Friday.

This is going to be a great game to watch so come on down to The Silverlake Stadium.
