With only one recognised first-teamer on parade in Danny Smith, Eastleigh were comfortable winners against a Falkland Islands side that had arrived in England less than twenty-four hours earlier and also with three more players still not having arrived in the country.
It was though a good work out for both sides with Eastleigh finding six different scorers on an afternoon when it was really looking at new trialists for the start of the season.
After missing several early chances Eastleigh went ahead on twenty-one minutes with Ben Chambers turning the ball under the advancing goalkeeper to open the scoring. Six minutes later the strength of Sam Wilson got him behind his defender before slotting home number two, both players being part of last seasons reserve/youth set up.
The score remained at two until the seventy-first minute; this time 20-year-old trialist Stuart Duff, who was with Crawley Town last season and spent a spell on loan at Hampton & Richmond Borough, fired home after breaking through the Islanders defence.
David Abe (22), scored with a spectacular drive two minutes later also impressing on his trial. Abe being with Ilkeston Town last season having also seen service with Chatham Town, Lordswood, Maidstone United and Halesowen Town.
With the Islanders tiring, they failed to clear a corner on seventy-nine minutes and Courtney Chinn made the most of the weariness and drilled home number five. The dreadlocked Chinn, only 18, tried his luck after being with Winchmore Hill in the Southern Amateur League last season.
The final and arguably best goal of the afternoon was left until nine minutes from time. Liam Hibberd who made his first team debut at the back end of last season, sent a dipping shot from fully thirty-five yards over the stranded keeper into the net.
