Eastleigh v Dorchester Town - Match preview

Match preview by Kieran James

Ian Baird’s Spitfires will be in search of back to back wins on this Bank Holiday Good Friday fixture as they entertain Dorchester Town in the Blue Square Bet South at the Silverlake Stadium (3pm kick off).

After going five leagues games without a win, Eastleigh bounced back with a win at home to Eastbourne Borough last Saturday, where it took just three minutes for the Spitfires to take the lead.

Gary Elphick, who captained Eastbourne earlier in the season against Eastleigh, got on the end of a Daryl McMahon cross much to the delight of the whole team who ran to the dugout to celebrate with manager Ian Baird.

Just five minutes after the break captain Tom Jordan sent a powerful header into the back of the net after another Daryl McMahon cross to double Eastleigh’s lead.

The Sports did get one back after 64 minutes - a long throw found substitute Ellis Remy who acrobatically scored past on-loan Southampton keeper Jack Dovey; however the Spitfires held on to a much needed three points.

Eastleigh’s visitors Dorchester Town last played on Saturday where they faced Farnborough away. Ryan Dovell opened the scoring for The Magpies only for Dan Bennett to equalise with twenty minutes to go for Farnborough.

On loan Exeter City striker Tom Nichols scored a penalty for The Magpies, which secured his club three well earned points. Earlier this week manager Alan Knight resigned leaving Phil Simkin and Mark Jermyn to take charge against Eastleigh.

The last time these two teams met was back in August at The Avenue Stadium. Ryan Moss took the lead for the Magpies after 34 minutes and Dorchester went into the break with a one goal lead.

The Spitfires went out all attacking in the second half as Jordace Holder-Spooner equalised for Eastleigh and then five minutes later Andrew White (now at Winchester City) took the lead for Eastleigh in the closing stages to secure all three points.

The last time these two teams met at the Silverlake Stadium was last season where captain Tom Jordan opened the scoring with a towering header. Richard Graham (now at Dartford) then doubled Eastleigh’s lead with a superb strike on goal.

Jamie Slabber (now at Chelmsford City) finished the game off with the last kick of the game when he received the ball from Richard Graham and tapped into an empty net to secure all three points for the Spitfires.

In other news 16-year-old reserve keeper Josh Helm has been offered a two-year scholarship with Swindon starting in June.

This is going to be a great game to watch so come on down to The Silverlake Stadium and roar on those Spitfires!

COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!
