Blue Square Announce “Player of the Month” Winners for September
September was an exciting month for all three Blue Square leagues, which saw an unprecedented number of goals. Games in the Blue Square Premier averaged over three goals per game. There were a number of exciting comebacks and last minute dramas littered throughout the fixture list.
Contributing to the excitement with 8 goals in 8 games was Forest Green striker Stuart Fleetwood who has been voted by fans as the Blue Square Premier “Player of the Month”. Stuart was in remarkable form towards the end of the month and he netted 5 times in 2 games as his side overcame Stevenage and Cambridge United at home. Fleetwood finished the month at the head of the scoring charts, with his team on the edge of the play-off positions.
The award in the Blue Square North goes to Ciaran Kilheeney of Burscough. The former Manchester City trainee found the net 4 times in 5 games, as the division newcomers consolidated their good position in the table. The highlight of the month for Kilheeney came in the last ten minutes of the game against Boston where he scored twice to snatch all three points for his side.
Newport County defender Lee Jarman wins the Blue Square South award after a number of solid displays for his new side. County completed the month with the best defensive record in the division conceding only 2 goals.
Blue Square Announce “Manager of the Month” Winners for September
Aldershot Town boss Gary Waddock has won the Blue Square “Manager of the Month” award for September. The Shots completed an unbeaten run for the month with a 1-1 draw at Cambridge United, after six successive victories. In a fabulous few weeks for the division, which saw an unprecedented number of goals, Aldershot contributed to the excitement with their own tally of twenty in seven games. The highlight of that period was a 5-0 home thrashing of Northwich Victoria. The award is judged by a panel of experts including Setanta Blue Square Premier pundit Paul Parker. Parker had this to say about Waddock: “Gary Waddock has impressed in the early months of his first season at the club, their away record is outstanding and should see them in a healthy position come May”.
In the Blue Square South the award goes to Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson. Borough kept tabs on league leaders Lewes with four wins and a draw during the month. Wilson’s side are yet to be beaten this season and have one of the best defensive records in the division.
Liam Watson the Burscough manager scooped the award in the Blue Square North. The league newcomers won four games, scoring eleven goals in the process, to consolidate a great position in the table. Highlights of that period were away wins at Solihull Moors and Blyth Spartans.
