Eastleigh 3-1 Bath City

EASTLEIGH v BATH CITY Tuesday 30th October 2012 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Jamie Montigue Eastleigh made it five home wins in a row (four in the League) to bounce back from a narrow loss away to Eastbourne Borough at the weekend. Richard Hill made two changes to the starting eleven with Mitchell Nelson coming into the side to partner Leigh Mills in the centre of defence in place of Tom Jordan; whilst top goal scorer Moses Ademola returned to the side in place of Dale Binns. The game began with Eastleigh on the front foot as Damian Scannell won an early corner on the far side. Jai Reason’s set piece was aimed towards Craig McAllister where the ball then fell for midfielder Mark Hughes. The former Barnet skipper hit the ball on the volley but the effort was sliced and sailed comfortably off target. Further attacking play by Scannell once more down the left, saw his low cross find Reason in space in the centre, though Jai's effort was well blocked. The on

FA Trophy 3rd Round Draw

In the draw for the Third Round Qualifying of the FA Trophy announced today, Richard Hill's Eastleigh have been handed a tough home tie against Blue Square South rivals Hayes & Yeading United. Hayes & Yeading were formed in May 2007 after Conference South clubs Hayes F.C. and Yeading F.C. merged. In their second season, 2008–09, they finished fourth, securing a place in the play-offs semi final against Eastleigh. H&Y secured victory beating Ian Baird's Spitfires 6–4 on aggregate and went on to win the play off final against Hampton & Richmond to secure promotion. Earlier this season Eastleigh fans witnessed a 3-1 victory over the Surrey club with a brace from Jai Reason and a late Glenn Southam strike. The match is to be played on November 10th (k.o. 3.00pm) To see the draw in full please click HERE

Eastbourne 1-0 Eastleigh

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH 1-0 EASTLEIGH Saturday 27th October 2012 Blue Square Bet South Match Report by Paul McNamara The frustrating stop-start nature of Eastleigh’s season continued on a bitterly cold afternoon in East Sussex as they lost by a single goal to an unexceptional Eastbourne Borough side. This display bore far closer resemblance to that at Gloucester in the F.A. Cup than the much improved showing at Chelmsford in the Spitfires last league match two weeks ago. There was no clue to the eventual outcome early in the game as the visitors started by far the livelier of the two teams. After only 7 minutes Damian Scannell - who was Eastleigh’s most potent threat throughout the 90 minutes – retrieved a deep cross wide on the right and crossed for Craig McAllister to head powerfully home. As the players and their outstanding travelling support were celebrating what appeared a vital early breakthrough the referee was disallowing the goal for an infring

Williams moves to Sutton United

Image
Marvin Williams has completed his transfer to Sutton United. The attacker has joined fellow Blue Square Bet South rivals after undergoing a medical and agreeing personal terms with United today. Williams, now 25, was former manager Ian Baird’s first 2012 summer signing but had struggled for a starting eleven jersey since the arrival of manager Richard Hill. Richard explained: "We had an approach from Sutton last week and after discussing things with Marvin it became apparent I could not guarantee him the starting shirt he craves. Competition in my squad is high in Marvin’s position with Moses (Ademola), Dale Binns and Damian Scannell.” Talking generally Richard continued: "In football management some decisions are financially led and as I have previously said, this football club is over budget and despite popular belief money is not readily available.” “I have to create my own funds from within the current budget whilst reducing it to a more sensible level. The c

Flitney arrives

Image
Ross Flitney Gillingham Goalkeeper Ross Flitney’s one month loan with Eastleigh Football Club has now been formalised following the conclusion of the necessary paperwork. The 28 year old shot-stopper joins Richard Hill’s squad and will be eligible to play in Saturday’s league fixture away to Eastbourne Borough. On what his latest recruit will bring to the fold, Spitfires boss Richard explained: “At our level of football everybody is looking for a quality experienced keeper. Ross has just returned from injury and with my contacts at Gillingham they have kindly agreed to help us out.” “This arrangement will suit everyone. He has played over 200 games and has bags of experience which will help us, it suits Gillingham and this arrangement will help Jack (Dovey) who will learn lots from Ross”. Ross started his career as a young player for Arsenal before moving to Fulham in 2003, working with senior keepers including Edwin van der Sar and Mark Crossley. With spells at Brigh

Flood loaned to Maidenhead

Image
Eastleigh Football Club today announces that Chris Flood has joined Maidenhead on a one month loan deal. The transfer listed 22-year-old, who joined the club in November 2011 from Dorchester Town, has struggled for first team action since arriving at the Silverlake. Spitfires boss Richard Hill said: ”Chris asked to go out on loan and this will be a good opportunity to play a few games as he has not had much of a look since arriving at Eastleigh.” Flood scored the opener in our Hampshire Cup Final victory at St Mary’s in June and also scored a well deserved hat-trick in last week’s cup win over Christchurch. He is a popular figure among team-mates, management and supporters.

Statement from Football Conference

Image
The Football Conference issues this statement, further to and in respect of the brief statement issued on Friday 19th October with regards to Truro City FC. The competition rules and regulations, together with the articles of the limited company, have been framed over preceding years in such a way, to safeguard the integrity of the competition and to protect the best interest of all its member clubs. The Board, constituted by those member clubs, has in recent years been faced with difficult decisions, especially with regards to financial difficulties many clubs seem to endure. Using their own individual and collective experiences the Board has to make judgements in the best interest of all concerned and in so doing, recognises the importance of fans of such clubs, especially those where the future existence of their club is placed in jeopardy. Truro City FC has rightly caused genuine concern to the Board, but we are delighted that the major efforts undertaken by all parties t

Chelmsford City 1-1 Eastleigh

CHELMSFORD CITY 1-1 EASTLEIGH Saturday 13th October 2012 Blue Square Bet South  Match report by Paul McNamara This was just 12 minutes from being the perfect Eastleigh away performance. After looking so vulnerable in recent matches the Spitfires were solid and extremely difficult to break down. The emphasis on tightening up, not only at the back but right through the side, came at the expense of some of the free flowing attacking play we’ve been treated to of late but that was a fair price to pay for the reward the performance earned. There were few chances in the opening 45 minutes but the first fell to Craig McAllister who could only head wide when well placed in the Chelmsford box. McAllister was causing a lot of problems in the Clarets defence as they struggled to handle not only his strength in the air but his physical presence. As has become customary the forward received little protection from the referee as he was regularly held and impeded. The number 9 didn’t back dow

Eastleigh 4-3 Staines Town

EASTLEIGH v STAINES TOWN Wednesday 10th October 2012 Blue Square Bet South Match report by Jamie Montigue Three games at the Silverlake Stadium have now produced three wins for Richard Hill's Eastleigh after a seven-goal thriller was played out against Marcus Gayle's Staines Town side. Tonight was all about responding and bouncing back from a disappointing couple of results in the league at Farnborough and being knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend by a solitary goal at Gloucester City. In a high-scoring game, Eastleigh came out on the right side of a positive result to earn all three points, and in so doing - moved six places higher in the Blue Square Bet South up to 7th in the table. As Eastleigh made it three home league wins on the spin, the stats for those three games make interesting reading. Winning 4-2 against Maidenhead United and then 3-1 versus Hayes & Yeading in addition to this evenings 4-3 win, has seen high-scoring, entertaining games with 11

Gary Elphick signs for Tonbridge Angels

Eastleigh FC can confirm that Gary Elphick has transferred to Tonbridge Angels. Gary has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner since arriving at the club last season. He has been a popular member of the team but with first team opportunities limited this season he has decided that at this stage in his career he needs to be playing first team football. Manager Richard Hill commented “Gary approached me recently to discuss his future at the club. It was clear he wanted to get more minutes on the pitch, which at this stage of the season I could not guarantee him with Andy Forbes and Tom Jordan at the club. Also we have signed Leigh Mills who can play at centre half, so Gary felt that his desire to play football could not be achieved here. "He is a super lad with a first class attitude and I am not surprised that once I gave him permission to find a club he got himself fixed up so quickly and I am sure he will be a real asset to Tonbridge. I wish him all the very b

Wayne Shaw departs

Eastleigh FC can today confirm that Wayne Shaw has left the club after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent. Shaw (pictured) arrived at Eastleigh earlier this year, and was also undertaking a coaching role. Stewart Donald commented: ''Wayne is a hugely popular figure who was brought back to the club by the previous manager. "Richard Hill has different ideas and plans and Wayne did not fit into these. I am sure we will see him back in the game soon and I wish him well for the future.''

Gloucester City 1-0 Eastleigh - FA Cup

EASTLEIGH v GLOUCESTER CITY SUNDAY 7th OCTOBER 2012 FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round Match report by Paul McNamara Eastleigh’s hopes of a memorable F.A. Cup run were ended by this frustrating performance at Whaddon Road. The Spitfires didn’t look stretched at any stage but couldn’t assert their superior ability on dogged opponents. When Gloucester scored after 11 minutes it was the first occasion on which they’d offered any threat. Until that point Eastleigh had been in control without extending their hosts. Damian Scannell again started brightly – as against Hayes & Yeading last week - and was positive and direct whenever he was in possession. That was all too rare an occurrence, however, as the visitors, instead of moving the ball about in the way we know they’re capable, sought to hit Craig McAllister and play off the forward. McAllister was outstanding in keeping hold of the ball and bringing his team mates into play but as at Farnborough he found himself isolated too o

Guy Butters

Eastleigh Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Guy Butters as their new Assistant Manager. Guy played over 600 games as a professional at clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Portsmouth, Gillingham and Brighton & Hove Albion. Until recently he had a successful spell as Manager of Winchester City. Richard Hill commented ''I have known Guy for a long time, we were at Gillingham together and I have followed his career ever since. I spoke to him after his departure from Winchester and I am delighted he has chosen to join me here at Eastleigh. He is somebody I trust, has had a fantastic playing career and I am sure we will work well together.'' Guy will join Richard's back room team immediately and will be with the squad for Sunday's FA Cup Tie against Gloucester City.

Lloyd Anderson signs

Goalkeeper Lloyd Anderson has today signed terms at Eastleigh FC and will join the squad ahead of this Sunday's FA Cup game. Lloyd started his career with Brentford FC and has also had spells at Grays Athletic and Bromley. Richard Hill said ''I am delighted to welcome Lloyd to the Silverlake. He is a young man with a lot of potential and has come to Eastleigh to compete for the number one jersey with Jack. Competition in all areas of the squad is healthy and we have a long season ahead of us.'' Stewart Donald added '' I am delighted Lloyd has agreed to join us. He is highly regarded and I believe he was being chased by a number of clubs. He will be a strong addition to the squad and as Richard said, he has come to compete for the goalkeepers jersey which will provide healthy competition.''

Farnborough 6-2 Eastleigh

FARNBOROUGH v EASTLEIGH Tuesday 2nd October 2012 Blue Square Bet South  Match report by Paul McNamara     The Spitfires’ start to this match was in complete contrast to Saturday’s high-tempo beginning against Hayes & Yeading. Unlike that fast and positive opening at the Silverlake, this Eastleigh team - showing 5 changes from a fine 3-1 win - ere sluggish and hesitant. When, with 26 minutes still remaining, Mitchell Nelson slid the ball into his own net to concede a 6th goal the whole night was summed up in one moment. Credit to Farnborough. They were determined not to let the visitors settle. Each time an Eastleigh player had possession they were quickly closed down and hounded by a number of yellow shirts. The Spitfires couldn’t get out of their own half, and were being opened up by Boro’s wide players far too frequently. Reece Connolly, playing as the Yellows main striker, enjoyed a regular supply of crosses. Most worryingly Gary Elphick – in for Tom Jordan – and And

Blue Square Monthly Awards - September 2012

Image
DARK HORSE DARTS SCOOP AWARD FOR BOSS BURMAN    Dartford manager Tony Burman has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for September. The Kent side have found their feet in Non-League’s top-flight with a fantastic few weeks taking 16 points from a possible 21 in the period. A 2-1 home win over early leaders Newport County was one of the highlights, but they also drew 2-2 at last season’s runners-up Wrexham. Their fifth win of an incredible month came on Saturday when they beat Hyde 2-1 to move into the play-off zone. Having been one of the favourites for relegation they have now seen those odds drift out to 8/1 whilst their title odds have plummeted from a high of 400/1 in to just 40/1! In the Blue Square Bet North the ‘manager of the month’ award for September goes to Brackley Town manager Jon Brady. The young Australian boss makes it an early season double with his side having helped him take the August honours too. Brackley remain unbeaten for the seas
