Dodd, St. Mary's return - Confirmed
Almost a year has past since Eastleigh pulled off the major coup of securing the services of Jason Dodd. Initially, the Dell legend was brought to the Silverlake Stadium as a player, however things didn't work out on the injury front causing Dodd to take up a role off the field.
No sooner had Jason hung up his boots as a player, had the Spitfires appointed Dodd to Head Coach. A short while later, in December, his journey at the club reached a new height as he was appointed manager to fill the void left by Paul Doswell.
His record spoke for itself, with just six defeats from 25 games winning the hearts of the Eastleigh faithful by steering the club to safety and away from relegation.
Having begun preparations for the new season as Eastleigh boss, with the club's stability restored, Dodd was presented with a massive opportunity to return to Southampton, following the news that George Burley's assistant, Glyn Snodin, had moved on to pastures new just days before - joining the West Ham coaching staff.
This, the club where he spent the best part of 16 years of his footballing career, appearing no fewer than 399 times in the top flight.
This morning the rumours were confirmed as the Saints unveiled Dodd as first team coach to mark an emotional return 'home'.
Club Statement:
"Eastleigh Football Club can confirm that Jason Dodd has left his position at the club to take up a position of 1st Team Coach at Southampton Football Club.
Whilst we are delighted that Jason has been offered this prestigious opportunity, we are disappointed that we have lost him as 1st Team Manager.
The Club would like to thank Jason for the hard work and effort he has put in to the club, over the past year.
The Equity Directors of Eastleigh Football Club will meet in the next few days to discuss the way forward and will be hoping to make an announcement early next week."
Fitting Farewell to Dodd - Eastleigh believe next Saturday's (July 14, 3pm) friendly against Saints will be a fitting way to say farewell to their manager Jason Dodd. Click here for full story.
