Todd: "We're up and running"

Eastleigh manager Chris Todd, discussing the Spitfires 2-1 win over Guiseley on Saturday, is pleased to get the season up and running with three points on the opening day.

“It’s the first game of the season and everyone’s on edge wanting to get the three points and we’ve done that." Todd said.

“It doesn’t matter how we played, we’re up and running now.

“We were comfortable but then we got a bit shell-shocked by them scoring, switched off and let them into the game.

“They had nothing to lose and you’ve got to give them credit for having a right go in the second half.

“No game’s going to be easy and we’re delighted to get the points on the board.

“It was boiling hot out there and I think that was a factor today, especially when people are not yet fully match fit.”

With 11 new signings added to the Eastleigh squad over the summer, Todd is pleased with how well the squad is looking.

“It’s difficult getting new players together, but they’ve settled so well and they looked really together as a team,” added Todd.

Eastleigh captain and scorer of the second goal, Joe Partington noted: "In spells we looked a good team and in other spells we didn’t, but it’s the first game and the weather was ridiculously hot. It’s tough to keep the intensity going for 90 minutes.”
