Glasspool Double Sinks Godalming

EASTLEIGH RESERVES V GODALMING TOWN

WEDNESDAY 22ND FEBRUARY 2006
SUBURBAN SOUTH LEAGUE

EASTLEIGH: Alan Walker-Harris, Craig Martin, Dan Brunnen, Sam Stannard, Scott Gilham, Dan Smith, Craig Cansdale, Toure Mamadouba, Adam Roberts, Zach Glasspool, Ben Ngwa
Substitutions: Sam James for Ben Ngwa and Ryan Woodford for Zach Glasspool

Eastleigh Reserves beat the bottom of the league side Godalming comfortably with a good 2-0 victory over their opponents.

Zach Glasspool scored both goals, one either side of half time, although their was much dispute about the second!

Early in the game winger Dan Smith put in a decent cross from the right which Glasspool chested down before poking a shot straight at the keeper.

Adam Roberts was a threat down the left wing with his pace and dribbling ability and it was Roberts who created another chance for the dangerous Glasspool shortly after.

Godalming had relatively few chances with Sam Stannard having a superb game at the back. He was winning headers and putting in good challenges to away the Godalming strikers, leaving Walker-Harris with very little to do.

The home side took the lead on 27 minutes when ‘Taz’ played the ball through to Glasspool who took a touch to compose himself before blasting the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area – a great goal. 1-0

Centre midfielder Toure Mamadouba had forced a good save out of the Godalming keeper towards the end of the half with a low right-footed drive.

HALF TIME – Eastleigh Res. 1-0 Godalming Town

At half time, Sam James replaced striker Ben Ngwa who picked up a knock and was unable to continue.

It was all Eastleigh once more, with Dan Smith putting in more good crosses, this time from the left wing. Scott Gilham came very close to doubling the home sides lead but his powerful header from a corner was only prevented from going in by a fine stop that was tipped over the bar.

The next chance for Eastleigh came when Taz won a free kick. The ball was played across the box to Mamadouba who shaped up to shoot but scooped well over the bar.

Glasspool again was threatening each time he got the ball, before scoring his second goal he had a good effort flicked around the post by the Godalming keeper, who had a good game between the sticks.

In the 75th minute, Glasspool hit a speculative effort from the left hand side with a curling right-footed shot that dipped and swerved before hitting the bar and rolling down the post and stopping on the goal line. The referee was about to play on but his assistant on the far side incredibly gave a goal much to the disappointment of the visitors! 2-0.

Towards the end of the game Ryan Woodford came on for the classy Glasspool in an unfamiliar position, upfront!

Godalming had their best two chances of the game in the last two or three minutes. Firstly a looping header only just crept over Walker-Harris’ bar and then Sam Stannard had to clear off the line in the dieing seconds to keep the clean sheet.
