EVANS NAMED TOP MARCH BOSS AS RED DEVILS CLOSE IN ON TITLE

Steve Evans from Crawley Town has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘manager of the month’ for March. The Red Devils surged to the top of the table with an unbeaten month consisting of six wins in eight league matches. The Sussex club playing catch-up after their FA Cup exploits. League sponsors Blue Square paid out on a title success after their win over long-time leaders AFC Wimbledon a few weeks ago but Evans remains cautious. “Blue Square have done this before and that’s what their business is all about. “We won’t be counting our chickens and we’ll remain fully focused until we’ve got the job done”. The recent 2-0 win over Mansfield Town extended their current unbeaten run to 22 matches and Blue Square offer just 3/1 that Evans’ team can beat the Conference record of 28 set by Altrincham in the early 90’s. The award is the second of the season for the Crawley boss after also taking the January honour.

The Blue Square Bet North ‘manager of the month’ for March is Paul Cox from Eastwood Town. The Badgers have only lost one match since mid-November and their record for the past month has seen them make an outside bid for a play-off place. Cox’s team have won seven of their eight league matches during the period, but arguably their best result was achieved with a 2-2 draw at title chasers AFC Telford United.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘manager of the month’ for March is Steve King from Farnborough. The Hampshire club are giving long-time title favourites Braintree Town a real run for their money at the top of the table, closing the gap to just one point as the final month of the season begins. King’s side beat their title rivals on the 12th March and then extended that winning run to five matches after opening the period with a valuable draw at local rivals and fellow promotion hopefuls Woking.

TUBBS MAKES IT DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR CRAWLEY AS THE GOALS KEEP COMING

Crawley Town’s Matt Tubbs has been named the Blue Square Bet Premier ‘player of the month’ for March. Last season’s joint top-scorer has continued his rich vein of form producing an incredible return for the Red Devils – and scoring six goals in eight March matches. Tubbs’ strike rate is running at just under one goal per game since the start of last season when he was playing for Salisbury City. Tubbs started the month on 24 goals and took that total to 30 with a midweek strike against Mansfield as his side near the finishing line in the title race. The award makes it a monthly double for Crawley as boss Steve Evans takes the managerial equivalent. It’s also Tubbs’ second award of the season after taking the same honour in September.

The Blue Square Bet North ‘player of the month’ for March is Lee Stevenson from Eastwood Town. The prolific midfielder has been a key part of the Badgers’ rise up the table with a long unbeaten run. Stevenson contributed with five goals in eight matches during the month as his side make a late bid for a play-off place. Boss Paul Cox was named the winner of the managerial award to make it an Eastwood double for the month.

The Blue Square Bet South ‘player of the month’ for March is Kezie Ibe from Farnborough. The former Arsenal trainee scored four important goals for his side as they close in on leaders Braintree. One of Ibe’s strikes was an important goal against the Essex outfit in a 2-1 win during the period. With boss Steve King handed the managerial honour it makes it a March double for ‘Boro.
