Match Preview - Staines Town v Eastleigh

By Kieran James

Eastleigh missed a chance to go into a play-spot on Tuesday as they let in another four goals against Welling United just two weeks after losing 4-1 at home against the Wings.

The Spitfires took the lead with a Tony Taggart penalty in the 21st minute but that lead only lasted five minutes when Lee Clarke scored his first of four goals.

Warren Goodhind was shown a straight red card after conceding a penalty in the 46th minute and Lee Clarke converted the penalty for Welling United to go 2-1 up.

Lee Clarke scored another goal to seal his hat-trick before Richard Gillespie scored his first goal since January away to Worcester in the FA Trophy; but a chance of a comeback did not last long when Lee Clake converted another penalty for Welling United to win 4-2.

Ian Baird's Spitfires travel to Wheatsheaf Park where they play 11th placed Staines Town in the Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.

Although only three places separate the two teams, there is a 14 point gap in the league. The Spitfires have won three of their last six games but they have lost two and have drawn one. The Swans have won two, lost two and have drawn two out of their last six games.

Mark Nwokeji has ended his loan and returned to AFC Wimbledon while Ian Herring has signed for Eastleigh after a successful loan spell at The Silverlake Stadium.

Staines Town's last league game was away to 16th placed Dorchester Town where the match finished 3-3 with Dwane Lee, Howard Newton and Warren Harris all netting for The Swans.

Staines Town have kept seven clean sheets (three of them being at home) and have failed to score five times (all being away) in their last twenty games.

The Spitfires have kept five clean sheets (three of them being away) and have failed to score three times (one being away) in their last twenty games.

The Spitfires have some unfinished business with the Swans this season after getting beaten 4-1 at the Silverlake Stadium with captain Tommy Jordan scoring the only goal for Eastleigh.

However the last time these teams met at Wheatsheaf Park, The Spitfires won 1-2 with ex-Spitfire Sam Butler scoring for Eastleigh and Charlton Athletic Yado Mambo scoring an own goal for Eastleigh securing the Spitfires three points last season.

This is a vital game for The Spitfires so get behind them! COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!!!
