Bashley 1-0 Eastleigh

Ross Bottomley was the only recognised first team player to feature for Eastleigh in this pre-season friendly, which consisted mainly of trialists and young reserve players. The game was another ideal opportunity for Ian Baird and Kevin Braybrook to run the rule over a number of prospects in competitive action.

Eastleigh were taking on Bashley's first team which contained the likes of James Stokoe and Jack Smith (both ex-Eastleigh), Dave Allen and Mark Gamble.

Manager Ian Baird nearly got a game in goal as Jamie Banasco-Zaragoza's car broke down on the way to the match. The goalkeeper who played against Reading on Saturday, eventually made it to the game and played the whole of the second half; but Grant Blackmore, a youth/reserve team goalkeeper stepped in minutes before kick off to play between the sticks after Ian Baird had completed the warm-up as a goalkeeper!

The first half was very even with Bashley beginning the game well with a number of early corners before Eastleigh came up with some chances of their own.

Troy Powell-Quarry, who impressed as a second half substitute against the Royals on Saturday at the Silverlake Stadium, was the stand-out player up front for the Spitfires with good skill and a couple of good attempts on goal.

Eastleigh's best chance of the game came when Powell-Quarry's quick feet and skill to the right of the penalty area saw him skip past a couple of defenders before squaring the ball for Chris Mason, whose goal bound shot was cleared off the line.

Dave Allen came close to opening the scoring for the hosts on 30 minutes with a curling shot, but it remained goalless at the break.

Eastleigh made a host of changes for the start of the second half (detailed above).

The second half saw limited shots on goal but pacey right-back Shawn Hinds forced a save out of the Bashley keeper with a shot to the right of goal that had to be pushed away for a corner.

Young striker Sam Wilson had a turn and shot effort that flew comfortably over the bar and Bradley Gray headed over from a corner kick soon after.

Bashley scored the only goal of the game in the 83rd minute when Matt Greep drilled an angled shot into the bottom left-hand corner from 12-yards out to the right of goal.

The game ended prematurely due to an injury to Eastleigh goalkeeper Jamie Banasco-Zaragoza who came a long way out of goal and collided with an on-rushing Bashley forward in an aerial collision before landing awkwardly.

Former Bashley goal-machine Richard Gillespie was in attendance and is currently recovering from an injury. Meanwhile Andrew White, who has agreed terms with Eastleigh as revealed by Director of Football Dave Malone, was also watching on in the stand for tonight's game.
