News update - July 1
FA Competitions
The draws for the early round of the FA competitions was due to be out this week but with the appeal lodged by Rushden & Diamonds on their expulsion from The Football Conference which is to be heard on Tuesday 5th July, the release of the draws has had to be delayed until Friday 8th July.
The draws will not affect Eastleigh for their FA Cup or FA Trophy fixtures as we do not enter the competitions until later in the season, but we will be included in the draws of the FA Challenge Youth Cup, which over recent years the sides best achievement has seen us take on Swindon Town in the First Round of the competition.
Fawley A F C V Eastleigh Suburban League side
This fixture has been brought forward to Friday 22nd July at 7.45pm at the request of Fawley.
Ex Spitfires
Former Spitfires in the news this week for linking up with new clubs include:
Peter Castle - made two appearance for Eastleigh in 2006/7 his debut away at Weston Super Mare in a league fixture, but despite having a Football League appearance behind him with Reading, Castle moved on after a brief spell and has since seen service with Bashley, A F C Totton and Gosport Borough. Castle for the start of season 2011/12 has signed for Wessex League side Lymington Town.
Matt Gray - who has been assistant to Ian Baird since they arrived at the Club in October 2007, has now linked up with a former team, mate of his in Dean Holdsworth as Gray has joined the coaching staff at Aldershot Town.
Darren Curtis - Darren was a member of the side that won the Wessex League with Eastleigh in 2003. A former Fulham youngster. Curtis was with Romsey Town last season and has joined Blackfield & Langley.
Hampshire Senior Cup
It will not take long until Eastleigh cross swords with their former first team coach Matt Gray again as The Spitfires have been drawn away to Aldershot Town in the Second Round of the Hampshire Senior Cup sponsored by BSA Regal, in a tie due to be played on Tuesday 11th October.
