Reaction | Richard Hill | York City

Richard Hill shares his post-match thoughts after a 3-1 defeat at York City:

“You can’t start a game of football and give away two goals in the first fifteen minutes and expect to win a game of football, home or away.”

“I think we probably just edged the last fifteen minutes of the first half, we played the better football but didn’t threaten the goal as much. And in the second half, for the first half hour, I thought we were decent.”

“We moved the ball around well. Young Tyler’s shot at goal – how has that stayed out? I don’t know. It’s hit the inside of a round post and gone out. If that goes in, we’re in the ascendancy and who knows. But we looked very nervous every time the ball goes near our goal, we look nervous every time the ball goes in our half. That’s difficult for me to take as a manager.”

“When you’re a defender, it is your job to defend. Not be nervous about it. That’s tough to take today. I’m not saying we were worthy of three points, not by any stretch of the imagination but I think we perhaps deserved a point. We didn’t get it so we have to dust ourselves down and go again.”

“It’s my job to have a few sleepless nights and decide how we’re going to put this right over the next few days with regards to training. We’ve got some players here that are very, very low on confidence.”

“We don’t particularly look like a team. I’ve stressed even now, after the game, we are a team. We have to work for each other. We are very disjointed I feel. We’re a team. We’re in this little bit of a – is it a mess or is it a hole? It’s probably a messy hole. We’re all in it together, me included.”

“I’ve inherited this situation. I haven’t created this situation. I’ve inherited this situation for whatever reasons and all I can do is come along and try to get these lads to have a bit of confidence. The only way we can put it right is to stand up, roll our sleeves up, get on the training ground and see where we end up.”
