Baird looks ahead to Chelmsford game

Speaking in a recent interview with the Daily Echo soon after signing his new contract, Eastleigh manager Ian Baird looks ahead to tomorrow's game against fellow promotion hopefuls Chelmsford City.

Eighth-placed Eastleigh will look to get their play-off train back on track after a stop-start couple of weeks.

"We know we're in the mix, but we've fallen behind a bit," said Baird. "We lost two games (against Braintree and Dover) in quick succession and we've lost two more to the weather. Sides around us have won games and will be happier with points on the board rather than games in hand."

Chelmsford are fourth, seven points better off than Eastleigh having played two games more, but they have hit a sticky patch.

The Clarets are without a win in three games, having drawn with Thurrock and league leaders Braintree and lost to Ebbsfleet.

"Chelmsford have hit the post and the bar as far as promotion's concerned and I know their manager Glenn Pennyfather will be desperate to get to the play-offs," said Baird.

"They're a big club with a big history, fan base and budget."

The Spitfires lose goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot to suspension tomorrow, opening the door for Jason Matthews.
