Brown makes shock return to Eastleigh

JAMIE Brown is on his way back to Eastleigh just three months after parting company with the Blue Square Bet South play-off chasers following a breach of club discipline.
The 29-year-old marksman was on the brink of rejoining another of his old clubs, Dorchester Town, on Monday having walked out on Sydenhams Wessex League leaders Winchester over the weekend after taking umbrage at criticism from City owner Paul McCarthy.
Instead of playing for Winchester against Poole Town on Saturday, Brown was a spectator at the Silverlake Stadium for Eastleigh’s league defeat by Welling United.
He spoke to Spitfires boss Ian Baird after the game and then rang him on Monday to say he was joining Dorchester.
Brown, though, had intimated that he would prefer to re-join Eastleigh and, following discussions between Baird and director of football Dave Malone, they agreed to let bygones be bygones and welcome the braveheart targetman/midfielder back into the fold.
“I was surprised to see Jamie on Saturday and I told him to give me a ring if he needed any help or advice,” said Baird.
“He then phoned me to say he was going to Dorchester and, after speaking to Dave Malone, I rang Paul (McCarthy) at Winchester who was good enough to waive the seven days’ notice of approach straight away and give us his best wishes.”
Having let defender Neil Sharp go last week, Baird has room to accommodate the versatile Brown as Eastleigh step up their quest for promotion to the Conference.
“We’ve brought in an extra body we know all about,” said Baird.
“Jamie’s built his career on blood, guts and thunder and that’s why he’s made a living at this level of football. You know you’re going to get 100 per cent endeavour from him.
“I don’t know what happened at Winchester. He went to a good Wessex side, but maybe he became frustrated having been used to playing three levels above.
“All I know is that it didn’t work out and hopefully we’ll reap the benefit.”
Brown is expected to go straight into Eastleigh’s squad for Saturday’s massive home game against play-off rivals Woking. Sharp is believed to be in talks with Zamaretto Premier Division leaders Salisbury City.
