Chelmsford match preview
Match preview by Kieran James
The Spitfires face Chelmsford City on Saturday in the Blue Square Bet South, home at the Silverlake Stadium.
The Clarets were originally called Chelmsford FC when they were formed in 1878 before folding in 1938. The club was re-founded in the same year as Chelmsford City Football Club as professional.
Chelmsford got promoted into the Blue Square Bet South on 5th April following a draw to Ramsgate and won the Ryman Premier division with nine points to spare to Staines Town. However AFC Wilmbledon went on to clinch promotion with Chelmsford to the Blue Square Bet South.
In the last two seasons,The Clarets have finished third and fifth in the Blue Square Bet South having failed to get promotion twice.
The last time these two teams met was in August where the match finished 3-0 to the home side Chelmsford.
Ian Baird described the referee on that occasion as Jeremy Beadle as he disagreed with two penalty decisions and a Warren Goodhind sending off.
Ian Baird will be high in confidence in his side after signing a new two-year contract earlier this week with The Spitfires.
The Clarets last played on Monday where they held league leaders Braintree Town to a 0-0 draw, however Eastleigh have not for had a game for twelve days since they played Dover Athletic at The Silverlake Stadium (where the match finished 0-2 to Dover).
Fourth-placed Chelmsford sit seven points ahead of eighth-placed Eastleigh with 54 points but the Spitfires have two games in hand on their play-off rivals.
Both clubs have not been in great form lately but it is Chelmsford who are in better form having won three, lost one and drew two of their previous six games; Eastleigh have won two, lost three and drew once out of their last six games.
The Clarets have kept five clean sheets out of their last twenty games, three of which were in their last six games, Eastleigh on the other hand have kept four clean sheets in their last twenty games but The Spitfires have let in a goal in every game in their last six games.
You would expect the game to be a high scoring game with both clubs only failing to score twice out of their last twenty games.
The last time the two teams met at The Silverlake Stadium was in September 2009 where the match finished 3-1 to The Spitfires with captain Tom Jordan scoring the first and third and Anthony Riviere scoring the second goal. Lets hope it will be a similar result to the game on Saturday.
COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!!!
