Eastleigh suffer first defeat under Ronnie Moore

Eastleigh 0-1 Dagenham & Redbridge

Dagenham & Redbridge halted Eastleigh's 10-match unbeaten run as the Spitfires suffered defeat for the first time under Ronnie Moore.

Eastleigh made two changes from the side that beat Maidstone 3-0 on Tuesday night. Adam Dawson & David Pipe replaced the injured Jake Howells and suspended Reda Johnson.

Young defender Jack Smith and forward James Granger were named amongst the substitutes for Eastleigh.

With the Spitfires somewhat depleted in defence due to Johnson's one-match ban and Ryan Cresswell still recovering from a calf injury, Joe Partington played in the centre of defence to partner Adam Dugdale and David Pipe deputised at right back.

The only goal of the game came in the second half as Corey Whitely netted for the visitors. Eastleigh were temporarily down to ten men at the time as defender Adam Dugdale had suffered an injury. The hosts were trying to make a substitution to replace him, but while the Spitfires were a man-down, Dagenham & Redbridge took full advantage.

Just as Ryan Bird had struck the cross-bar for Eastleigh in the first half, the visitors almost doubled their advantage in the closing minutes as goal scorer Whitely had another effort which came back off the underside of the bar.

The Spitfires drop to 8th where a win would have seen them up to third.

Next weekend gives the Spitfires some respite from the league and a chance to progress in the FA Cup with a home tie against North Leigh in the 4th Qualifying Round.

Eastleigh: Ryan Clarke, David Pipe, Michael Green, Jason Taylor, Adam Dugdale (James Granger, 74), Joe Partington, Luke Coulson, Jai Reason, Mikael Mandron, Ryan Bird (James Constable, 90), Adam Dawson (Jamie Cureton, 81). Subs (not used): Ryan Huddart, Jack Smith.

Referee: Samuel Allison
Attendance: 2,209
