Allen: We need to do more

Quotes from Eastleigh boss Martin Allen as he reflects on the defeat at home to Braintree and looks ahead to taking on Tranmere:

Reflecting on Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at home v Braintree:

“We’ve had a long chat this morning to see the players and [have] a few individual chats.”

“Obviously it was a big disappointment, especially after playing so well at the weekend away at Guiseley. It was such a good performance up there where we came so close to getting three points.”

“It’s still not quite clicking yet but having watched the video we saw some of the chances we had. Strevs (Ben Strevens) is through with the goalkeeper to beat, then Tyler (Tyler Garratt) was through one v one. [There was also] Strevs’ header at the far post from three yards that went just wide, so we still had chances even though I don’t think we played that well.”

Work to do:

“There’s still a lot of work to do here at the moment. It’s very frustrating for the supporters, it’s frustrating for myself and we have to work our way through it.”

Reda Johnson’s injury:

“He got a knock on the side of his hip. It’s not his hamstring. He didn’t feel as though he was able to carry on and he’s not fit.”

What is Allen looking for ahead of Tranmere’s visit to the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday?

“Better than the other day.”

“We’re playing in fits and starts at the moment but it’s not been what I like.”

“We tried to get it down and play the other day and sometimes it worked well and other times it didn’t.”

“We’ve got a lot of work to do. I’m just looking for a better performance full of energy. we’ve got to do it for the crowd but I said that the other day.”

“We need to do more, there’s no doubt about it.”
