Michael Green departs

Long-serving defender Michael Green has left Eastleigh FC.

Green was an excellent servant to the club and was always a fans favourite for the Spitfires supporters.

A club statement confirmed that Green "has left the club with immediate effect."

As Green departed, Eastleigh were quick to "place on record their thanks for the excellent service Michael has given Eastleigh Football Club," also mentioning "some memorable performances for the club in the Conference South winning season and since."

The statement continued: "Michael has been a firm favourite amongst the passionate Spitfires fan base in his time at the club, and will embark on a challenge with a new club in the near future.

"The attitude shown by Michael has been a benchmark for new players in recent weeks, and has been a credit to the club having played over 250 times for the Spitfires."

Eastleigh boss Martin Allen had these words to say on Michael's departure:

“In the last few days, we’ve had a few chats with Michael, and we feel it’s the right thing to do for him after the service he’s given Eastleigh Football Club.

“He’s been a major player in the club’s rise to the National League, and by talking to him and letting him know early that it was going to be unlikely that he was going to get a contract for next season, Michael can now find himself a new club.

“The chairman has now taken it over and he has looked after Michael very well. I must say he is a really nice person. He’s been a great player for this football club, and it’s disappointing – it’s a testing conversation to have and I wish Michael the very best when he finds his new club.

“In the meantime, I have invited Michael to stay and to carry on training whilst he looks to find a new club.

“I wish Michael Green the very best of luck for the future.”
