Match report by Jamie Montigue
A depleted Eastleigh were defeated 2-0 by Bromley at the Silverlake Stadium to bring the Spitfires' three match unbeaten run to a halt.
Suspended duo Jamie Brown and Frankie Raymond were added to the list of injured absentees including Ryan O'Hara, Ross Bottomley and Danny Smith.
Ian Baird handed a debut to 19-year-old Mark Cooper, a left-sided defender who came through Bristol Rovers' youth ranks, and gave a first league start to 16-year-old Sam Wilson who led the attack with Richard Gillespie.
Billy Tsovolos came back into the Eastleigh starting eleven at right back for only his second start of the season. Jamie Slabber, who has been used as a utility player in the opening stages of this campaign, played in the centre of a midfield four with Henrik Breimyr also in the middle of the park this afternoon.
Eastleigh looked comfortable in the first half, albeit with little attacking threat, in a half where neither goalkeeper were really troubled. Chances were few and far between.
Jordace Holder-Spooner made a good start to the game forcing an Eastleigh corner in the 9th minute, which he took and delivered to the far post where Tom Jordan’s header went narrowly wide of the target.
The former Saints academy winger then showed great strength and power on the left flank to spin his marker and deliver a dangerous low cross from the left that had to cleared by the Bromley defence.
Andy Forbes made a strong impression in the back four, during the first half in particular, where alongside Tom he won a number of important headers.
Jamie Slabber made a couple of strong challenges in the midfield where he also tried to get on the ball and make things happen playing out of position.
In the 22nd minute, Bromley captain Tutu Henriques tried his luck with a low shot from 30-yards but Eastleigh goalkeeper Gareth Barfoot smothered the ball well.
Midway through the half Bromley had shouts for a penalty turned down, following a well-timed sliding tackle by the hard-working Billy Tsovolos to win the ball.
Hakeem Araba dragged a shot comfortably wide of goal in the 30th minute with an attempt from just outside the penalty area. This was the last attempt on goal until two minutes before half time when Harry Harding had a good sight at goal from a Bromley counter attack, only for the midfielder’s effort to sail high over the bar.
After the break, Bromley were given the opportunity to take the lead as Eastleigh conceded a soft penalty for a shirt pull on Gareth Williams. HARRY HARDING stepped up to fire the spot kick low, past Barfoot and into the net, to hand the visitors a 51st minute lead.
Eastleigh had to do a lot of defending for a short while but then had a spell where they could have drawn level. Jamie Slabber's speculative half-volley had to be saved by Dean Santangelo before Jordace Holder-Spooner saw a curling shot cleared off the line. Norwegian midfielder and Aldershot Town loanee, Henrik Breimyr executed a volley that was on target and again forced a save from Santangelo.
Bromley all but put the game out of sight with a second goal in the 67th minute. DANNY WALDREN took advantage of a poor attempted clearance at the back from the hosts, before planting a neat right-foot effort into the back of the net with a shot from the right, to double Bromley's advantage.
With a two-goal cushion now firmly in place, Eastleigh never recovered.
The closest Eastleigh came to testing the keeper was through Jordace Holder-Spooner in the 76th minute following a long throw by Henrik Breimyr. Tom Jordan helped the ball on into the path of Holder-Spooner, who turned well but failed to make clean contact on the ball when striking towards goal.
Harry Harding almost added a third for Bromley eleven minutes from time but Gareth Barfoot tipped his shot around the post for a corner.
The last attempt of the game came from the visitors who saw Danny Waldren’s long range chip almost catch Barfoot out of position with a fine effort that flew just over the bar.
The Spitfires will be disappointed with the goals that they conceded after battling well for 45 minutes, but Billy Tsovolos had an excellent game at right back as one of the positives for Eastleigh to take from the defeat.
