Eastleigh v Cinderford Town - Match Preview

Match Preview by Kieran James

Ian Baird's Spitfires start their FA Cup campaign on Saturday, home at the Silverlake Stadium against 5th placed Evostik Division One South and West outfit Cinderford Town.

The Spitfires come in to this game having beaten Staines Town 2-1. The Swans opened the scoring with a 45 yard lob through Adam Everitt. Eastleigh hit back 12 minutes later with the Spitfires' top goalscorer from 2010/2011 Jamie Slabber equalising for the hosts with a well taken goal.

Jamie Brown put Eastleigh 2-1 ahead when Jordace Holder-Spooner's shot from distance, which troubled Louis Wells in goal, saw the visiting goalkeeper spill the ball. Brown was on hand to net a 25th minute winner for is first goal of the season.

The Forresters, with an average crowd of 135 this season, have won their last two games against Mangotsfield United in the league 3-0 at home and 2-0 at home to Merthyr Town (one league below Cinderford) in the FA Cup 1st Round Qualifying replay.

The original fixture between the two clubs finished 1-1 which forced a replay at The Causeway Ground.

Last season, the Forresters got to the 3rd Qualifying Round having beaten Ringwood Town and Alton Town to get there; only to lose at home against Blue Square Bet South team Maidenhead United 0-4.

The Spitfires last season got to the 4th Qualifying Round beating Bognor Regis Town 2-0 at home and Clevedon Town away 0-5. Eastleigh then travelled to Woking where Richard Gillespie opened the scoring in less than two minutes with a superb strike. Missed chances for Eastleigh was soon regretted when Woking hit back with two goals in ten minutes.

Jamie Slabber equalised for The Spitfires six minutes after the break only for Elvis Hammond to destroy Eastleigh's First Round hopes, which would of been away to the highest team in the competition at the time - Brighton and Hove Albion.

Of course Eastleigh have made it to the First Round before in the 2009/2010 season where they got drawn to play Barrow AFC away. The 600-mile round trip will still be in the mind of many Eastleigh supporters where the Spitfires lost in the 93rd minute from a strike from 40yards.

If it weren't for Barrow's late goal, Andy Forbes would of been a hero for Eastleigh having scored the equaliser that day after been pushed up from centre back to striker for the last ten minutes. However the former Winchester City goal ace is still the only scorer who has scored for Eastleigh in the FA Cup Proper.

This is going to be great game to watch so come on down to the Silverlake Stadium and roar them into the next round! COME ON YOU SPITFIRES!
