Peacock extends stay

A busy Ian Baird is pleased to confirm former Manchester City, Bristol City and Swindon Town striker Lee Peacock has put pen to paper on a contract extension.

The one year deal will see 35-year-old Lee remain at the Silverlake until the summer of 2013.

Spitfires manager Ian Baird said: “Lee contributed well for us last season and has seen it and done it all before. Obviously players like Jack (Dovey) and alike are the long term future of the club but Lee’s role could be vital in our promotion quest.

“He is a senior pro who leads well and is a real credit to himself.”

Eastleigh continue to do their business early in preparation for next season as Ian Baird strives for the successful balance between youth and experience. When asked about an attempt to sign last year’s loan star Bradley Bubb Ian said: “Bradley Bubb is not going to happen and I understand he has sorted himself out. We are still looking for a striker and have plenty on the bubble but nothing concrete yet.”

Peacock, was born in Scotland in 1976 and progressed through the youth system at Carlisle United before making his debut for the Blues in 1994. He went on to play 76 times for the club, scoring 11 times. In September 1997 he joined Mansfield for £50,000 before signing for Joe Royle’s Manchester City in October 1999 for £500,000. He went on to have long spells at Bristol City, Sheffield Wednesday, Swindon and Grimsby Town.

In 2011 he joined local rivals Havant and Waterlooville before switching to Eastleigh in March this year.
